Equine Elixirs Excellence- Ulceraser Success Stories Straight from the Horse's Mouth
In this series, we speak directly with our customers about their horses’ experiences with Ulceraser to help shed light on how Equine Elixirs could work for your horse.
Horse ownership is not without challenges. We’re often confronted with new issues—behavioral or health-related—and it can be difficult to pinpoint the cause and find the solution. Oftentimes, a horse’s actions are a direct result of physiological matters causing discomfort. These are the circumstances under which Equine Elixirs came to be. When founder Elizabeth Ehrlich couldn’t find an effective, all-natural gastric support supplement to help her horse, Bella, combat the side effects of ulcers, she created her own, and Ulceraser was born.
In this series, we speak directly with our customers about their horses’ experiences with Equine Elixirs to help shed light on how Equine Elixirs could work for your horse. In this installment, we speak with three individuals who have found long-term success with the brand’s first product, Ulceraser. Enjoy!
Dawson A.
Large pony hunter, Foxmore Starstruck (“Winston”), carried his owner Dawson A., of Waxhaw, North Carolina, to some of the largest shows in the country including Devon and indoors. While it was smooth sailing with Winston in the ring, it wasn’t always as smooth when it came to his upkeep and traveling to shows.
For years, Winston struggled to keep weight on—being a picky eater exacerbated this—he tended to be colicky, and he battled an upset stomach while traveling to and from horse shows. When Dawson noticed that Winston was somewhat girthy and showed signs of discomfort, she knew she needed to find a remedy that would support his entire gastrointestinal tract.
“I tried everything,” said Dawson, “from SmartPak’s GI offerings to apple cider vinegar, but nothing seemed to help. Another rider in the barn had just tried Equine Elixirs’ Ulceraser with their horse and suggested I try it with Winston.”
After putting the Ulceraser in Winston’s food, the notoriously fussy eater ate every last bit. It’s been nearly five years since Winston started on Ulceraser and Dawson says the product did wonders for his stomach and his coat, so much so she decided to try it with her junior hunter.
“Since we had seen such great changes in my pony hunter,” shared Dawson, “we decided to try it on my junior hunter, in addition to other Equine Elixirs’ products, Positude, and Calmakazi.
“Based on my experience with Ulceraser and my two horses, I would 100% back this product!”
Katharine J.
A couple of years back, Dutch Warmblood mare, Fine Design (“Zoe”), owned by Katharine J. of Buffalo, New York, had undergone a week of treatment for colic at a renowned equine clinic. Thankfully, Zoe was able to avoid colic surgery and made a full recovery. Once Zoe was settled in at her home barn, however, Katharine noticed that the mare was looking heavier and was becoming irritable. After testing negative for metabolic issues, Katharine recognized that her horse’s temperament could be a result of discomfort caused by ulcers.
“Zoe is the most easy-going, non-mare-like horse,” said Katharine. “So, when I realized that she was a little cranky and irritable—she’d grind her teeth while being tacked up—and becoming dull to my leg while riding, I had an indication that I was dealing with ulcers.”
Katharine weighed the option of putting Zoe on medication to manage the ulcers but struggled with the idea given that it would be costly, and she felt the symptoms would become worse if Zoe were ever to come off of the medication. With this in mind, Katharine began to look for alternative solutions and was quickly drawn to Equine Elixirs’ Ulceraser because it contained the all-natural ingredients she’d read could support a healthy gut.
“At one point, I had considered drying my own cabbage to give to Zoe, but I would never be confident that my homemade method would be nutritious,” Katharine shared. “With Ulceraser, I really liked that it contained the ingredients I had read about and I could easily identify them on the label and in the actual bucket.”
After a short while, Katharine noticed that her mare was more reactive to leg, brighter, less bloated, and her new habit of teeth grinding had subsided substantially. Even more helpful was that Zoe loved to eat Ulceraser and didn’t need grain to mask the flavor.
Now, two and a half years later, Zoe is still being fed Ulceraser and is happy, healthy, and comfortable. Her pasturemate, an off-the-track Thoroughbred named Abe, is also on Ulceraser and reaping its rewards. “It’s so funny,” continued Katharine. “Zoe is a heavy horse that needs to maintain weight and could use more fire, while Abe is a thinner horse that needs to keep weight on and has plenty of fire. They couldn’t be more opposite yet they are both thriving on this product!”
Terri S.
Chaska XF (“Chaska”) was just six months old when Terri S., of Charleston, South Carolina, bought and began to raise the Andalusian gelding as a dressage prospect. From the start, Chaska was somewhat distracted and unfocused, but Terri chalked it up to being a young horse.
When Chaska was about five years old, Terri was still struggling with the gelding’s lack of focus, so she decided to send Chaska to a training farm two hours away in Aiken that specialized in young horses. Terri told the trainer she wasn’t confident that she’d be able to keep the gelding if he didn’t outgrow the antics.
One day shortly thereafter, a frustrating moment while bathing Chaska in the crossties prompted Terri to wonder if these “antics” were actually signs of stomach upset or ulcers. Terri researched solutions and was drawn to the relatable stories she found in Equine Elixirs’ rider and trainer testimonials, and Ulceraser specifically.
As a biology and chemistry major in college, Terri’s philosophy on supplements had been less is more and that horses simply need the forage and feed appropriate for their work. But after being stumped for so long and liking that the product was all natural and show-safe, she gave Ulceraser a shot.
“Within two weeks of being on the product, I swear he was a different horse,” explained Terri. “He was quiet in the cross ties, and when I rode him his tendency to get distracted went away—his reactivity to wind and noise diminished.”
“I really do give credit to Ulceraser for evening out Chaska’s disposition,” she continued. “Since he had already been in training for six to eight months, I have to believe it was the product that made such a significant difference in this horse.”
Now seven years old, Chaska is progressing well and training First Level. Last year, under Terri’s trainer, he won the South Carolina Dressage Association’s the high-scoring horse of the year.
“I will not take Chaska off of Equine Elixirs probably ever,” Terri concluded.
