Equine Elixirs Excellence – Success Stories Straight from the Horse’s Mouth

In this installment, we speak with three individuals who have found long-term success using many Equine Elixirs products for their programs.

Annie B.

Annie B. plays an important role as the head trainer for Honor Hill Farm of New Orleans, Louisiana. Splitting her time between Lexington, Kentucky, and Wellington, Florida, she has a full plate managing a hefty string of ponies and horses, but it was her personal grand prix horse, Mykonos SCF, that led her to Equine Elixirs’ line of all-natural equine supplements.

In the five years Annie has been partnered with Mykonos, she had tried using a different ulcer product on the market to support his gut and fight ulcers. Though the brand’s product had served its purpose for the most part, by the fall of 2020, Annie felt that there could be a more comprehensive and effective solution for Mykonos. “I didn’t quite think the product was giving [Mykonos] the results I wanted anymore,” she shared. “I was thinking he was a little thin, a little ‘this,’ a little, ‘that.’”

It was around the same time that Annie was exploring new supplements for Mykonos that Annie transitioned to her role at Honor Hill Farm and was tasked with building a proactive feed and nutrition program for all of the horses in her care. Her search led her to Equine Elixirs’ gastric support supplement Ulceraser. Given the product’s strong reviews and all-natural composition, she decided to incorporate it into Honor Hill’s program, in addition to giving it to Mykonos.

“When I tried Ulceraser, the horses loved it and ate it really well,” Annie explained. “It also helped settle all of the horses’ stomachs.”

Noticing the marked difference in the horses, Annie slowly started to experiment with other products in the Equine Elixirs portfolio, starting with nervous system support supplement Calmakazi. “I had a few hunters that were really high strung and a few green ponies that tended to be spooky, so I tried Calmakazi, and that’s what really hooked me.

“I had one pony that used to be extremely spooky—he thought the corners [of the ring] were going to eat him!” Annie continued. “Within a month of being on Calmakazi, he jumped around Capital Challenge [at World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio] without a second look anywhere. It was hands down the scariest ring this pony had jumped in, and his rider was also quite nervous because it was her first ‘indoors’ experience.”

After the success at Capital Challenge, Annie put a number of the horses on the product. “I really, really love the Calmakazi,” she repeated. “It really helps during the shows.”

In addition to Ulceraser and Calmakazi, Annie noted that hoof support supplement Crackdown has been a game changer for horses in the barn that have been notoriously difficult to shoe. “Between my farrier and Crackdown, the horses’ feet have become easier to manage. Within two weeks of starting my own horse on it, my farrier asked if I’d changed supplements—he noticed the improvement right away.”

Now a full-fledged fan of Equine Elixirs, she has horses in the barn on immunity and antioxidant support supplement Immunox, and hormone support supplement Positude. She also started her horse and some of the ponies on the brand’s new joint supplement Arthroscope. “I’ve noticed every horse is way more comfortable at the shows on it.”

Annie is grateful for Equine Elixirs’ effectiveness across horses and looks forward to continuing the use of the supplements in her program. “I really love how all of the horses look. We lease a few ponies from different people and they’re very particular as owners, but when they see the ponies at shows, they tell me how amazing they look and how happy they are. I definitely contribute this to Equine Elixirs—it really helps our horses and ponies look their best and stay healthy,” she concluded.

Bailey R.

Bailey R. an active-duty military officer currently stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, imported a Dutch Warmblood gelding named Hummer as a four-year-old in 2016. Though Bailey was eager to get to work with Hummer, she was deployed to Japan for two years shortly after he was imported. While Bailey worked overseas, Hummer lived a comfortable life in Michigan close to Bailey’s parents.

Once Bailey returned stateside, Hummer relocated to Virginia and the two were finally able to spend more time building a partnership in the dressage arena. As they worked together, Bailey found that Hummer had some “studdish” tendencies. “He was always a little bit hot and a little bit ‘looky,’” she said. When someone suggested she consider Equine Elixirs’ Positude, she decided to give it a shot.

“It was a game changer,” said Bailey of starting Hummer on the all-natural hormone support supplement. “I do not think I will ever take him off of it. It used to take 20 minutes to get him focused after he spooked. Positude brought his brain back to focus.”

Hummer’s spook, however, wasn’t always unwarranted. Living near a military base, Hummer would experience the booming sounds of F-18 jets flying overhead. Bailey credits Positude with helping keep Hummer calm and focused. “He’ll still let me know, ‘Mom, that’s a little scary,’” she laughed, “but then he is fine.”

After success with Positude, Bailey sought the help of another Equine Elixirs product—gastric support supplement, Ulceraser. “I could tell Hummer was super stressed,” shared Bailey. “He would buck every time I put a saddle on, so I suspected he was dealing with ulcers.” After a six-month regimen, Hummer’s issues cleared up completely and he returned to his happy and comfortable self.

In addition to receiving Positude on an ongoing basis, Hummer is also on the brand’s all-natural electrolyte, Electrofresh, a supplement Hummer loves because of its banana flavoring. “I love every Equine Elixirs product I have tried,” said Bailey.

“I love that you can see what every product is made of and it makes me feel good that I am feeding my horse something fairly natural.”

With the help of Equine Elixirs, Hummer has blossomed and become Mr. Personality and is often referred to as the ‘barn dog’ because of his affectionate and happy demeanor.

“He is the love of my life,” shared Bailey, “and it is very important that I do not put him on anything that is not show safe.” Bailey and Hummer are currently competing at Third and Fourth Level and hope to compete at the Prix St Georges Level next year. Bailey feels confident about their advancement, crediting the supplements with helping the pair progress.

“I am just so thankful for Equine Elixirs,” said Bailey.

Mary D.

Mary D., a certified myofascial release therapist based in North Carolina, opened her equine bodywork business, In Line Equine, in early 2021 while completing her last year in the military. As an equine bodyworker, Mary has become accustomed to recommending Equine Elixirs’ line of all-natural equine supplements to her clients, but her use of the products began with her own Thoroughbred geldings, 19-year-old Ellis, and 21-year-old Sam.

Ellis in particular had been an easy keeper until the age of 17 at which point Mary noticed that keeping on weight became more of a challenge and the effects of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) began to cause consistent irritation in his gut. Determined to help keep both of her ageing horses comfortable, Mary played what she calls “feed roulette,” adjusting their diets to see if various ingredients would sit better with Ellis and help both horses put on weight. When nothing seemed to work, she decided to better educate herself about equine nutrition, the products available to her, and the science behind them.

“I was sick and tired of guessing at the feed store,” Mary said of her decision to learn more about equine nutrition. “I was pouring hundreds of dollars into feeds and supplements that didn’t leave them looking or feeling better.”

Mary initially landed on a commercial feed that worked well but when Sam suffered an eye injury that landed him at NC State’s Equine Veterinary Hospital for several weeks followed by consistent outpatient visits for several more weeks, Mary began to reconsider her horses’ feed programs. “Nutrition became really important during this time because he was on a lot of medications and was going through a lot of sedation and trailering,” she said. “So, I decided to take an all-natural, forage-based approach.”

Once Sam was on the road to recovery, Mary found herself dealing with new issues when she discovered Ellis had ulcerations covering three-quarters of his esophagus. To manage the ulcers, Ellis was put on prescription omeprazole, but Mary was eager to find a more natural way to resolve the issue. “I did a complete management overhaul of Ellis’ regimen and I tried almost every product on the market, but none of them had an effect on him.”

Finally, she arrived at Equine Elixirs’ gastric support supplement Ulceraser and thought she’d give it a last-ditch effort. Much to her surprise, the product worked wonders. “Ulceraser is the only product that resulted in an improvement for Ellis, and in just 30 days,” Mary said. “This is also the first time in 10 months that I can say my horse has gained weight!”

Impressed with Ulceraser, Mary began incorporating immunity and antioxidant support supplement Immunox and electrolyte Electrofresh into Ellis’ feed program. “He does so well on Immunox,” shared Mary. “Because of our climate, Ellis tends to get flaky skin and that’s all gone away. And Electrofresh is the only electrolyte I can put him on without him causing stomach upset.”

As for Sam, Mary laughs as she comments that despite being 21, he acts like an off-the-track six-year-old. Because of his age, Mary and Sam do not compete but Mary notes that Sam thrives when he stays in work. “Sam is on Calmakazi and that has changed his world,” she shared. “I was originally using a different nervous system support supplement, but I had trouble getting it consistently to the farm. When I saw that Equine Elixirs had Calmakazi I knew I had to give it a try. “It gives Sam a little bit of headspace to make better decisions rather than ‘fight-or-flight’ decisions,” Mary continued. “He’s still forward, which he needs to be, but he isn’t dull nor is he edgy. He’s also able to keep weight on and, overall, it takes the ‘nervous Nellie’ edge off. When we are training, he’s not as worried about things and his focus returns much quicker.”

Mary contends that Equine Elixirs has contributed to finally reaching a state of homeostasis with her horses’ well-beings. “I love Equine Elixirs’ all-natural approach,” Mary concluded. “I can give the products to my horses and feel good about it.”
